FAQ Pilates for Hypermobility Course
I have been getting a few questions about the Pilates for Hypermobility Course and I thought I figure when one person asks, multiple must be thinking the same thing! I'm here today to answer a few of the most common questions, and ask you if you have more!
Question: Will the course offer time for individual feedback, corrections and time for questions, if I choose?
Answer: Absolutely! This is one of the reasons this course is so great for Hypermobility- the ability to customize and personalize to each individual body. We welcome you to leave your screen on, ask questions, and participate as much as you’re comfortable. We welcome you to attend as many classes as you can live, with camera on, so we can best observe and help you with anything that comes up. That being said, read onto the next question if you’re unable to make the live classes.
Question: I will be mostly watching the recordings, is there a way for me to get in touch with you if I had questions and receive helpful feedback?
Answer: Yes, absolutely. Many of our past participants have been unable to attend the live classes due to time zones, work schedules, etc, and have still had a wonderful learning experience. If you're not attending the class live, we encourage you to reach out via email in between classes to ask your questions and give us feedback on how it’s going so we can respond, help and encourage you. You can get even more out of this course if we can personalize it, and that comes from your communication to the Instructors! We will answer your question either via email or address it during the next class for you to watch back.
Question: I am pretty deconditioned and lacking in strength so I was wondering if I should wait until the next round to take this course.
Answer: This is a course that lays the foundations of movement/Pilates by going over a lot of basics and gentle movements. Strength building will come into play as well, but we meet everyone where they are at and give many options/layers/modifications. Because there is so much knowledge and information being shared throughout the movements, this course is beneficial for anyone with Hypermobility/EDS, even if you don't do as much movement as you'd like this go around! But, we do offer this a couple of times per year, with the option to re-take it as many times as you'd like.
Question: My PT told me not to do group classes, but this sounds like its pretty individualized even if it's a group.
Answer: That's right! We limit this class to 8-10 people and with the option of recordings there are often fewer people on live, allowing time to address individual questions, make verbal corrections as we move through, and incorporate modifications based on what is coming up for each person. It is not a 'follow along with the teacher' type of group ex class. It's a really lovely and inclusive format and we have seen so much learning and empowerment for past participants!
Question: What can I expect to learn that's different from PT or regular Pilates?
Answer: My favorite way that a student has described it is "PT on steroids". We personalize the Pilates movement to what your body needs and help you to learn how you could do that once you go out into the 'real world' of exercise, group classes and gyms. The things you'll learn in this course are easily transferable to real life and doing the activities you love. You'll come away with knowledge of how to move more comfortably during your exercise or sport of choice. The tips and tricks we teach in this course have been eye opening and bring about many 'ah-hah' moments.
